Committee

At present we have a voluntary organising committee of seven members to oversee the ongoing development of the organisation. This committee consists of:

Noel Buxton
Position: Chair Person & Ride Liaison
My inspiration has come from the great times I had riding with EHPS.  I have a great passion for this sport and I hope that I might influence other riders to experience the same camaraderie and pleasure, whilst still retaining the will to compete.  I must apologise to all in that when I’m competing – I’m competing!  I may not be able to pass the time of day whilst riding, but at any other time I actively welcome anyone to approach me for help, advice and encouragement.  I firmly believe that the Sport Endurance motto adopted last year of ‘LETS RIDE’ is one which cannot be surpassed!  What I particularly admire about our Society is that almost to a man, or woman, our governing bodies ride as opposed to ‘used to’ and so are more in tune with you the members.

Pat Wild
Position: Company Secretary
Pat hadn't even sat on a horse six years ago; then she met Noel Buxton, who had one to spare – a Trotter called Jack.  The equestrian bug bit deep and in less than a year, Pat was doing her novice Endurance season.  Although managing the odd competitive ride, Pat can mostly be seen training with and crewing Noel as he flies around the countryside on his black Arab!  Pat and Noel have formed the Northern Group and organise the Brown Wardle rides from where their horses are stabled in Rochdale.

Jo Wright
Position: website/Membership/Area 9 Rep

Jo has spent the best part of 20years enjoying pleasure and competitive rides with her long time partner Sunni (aka The Hooligan) and a number of other mounts entrusted to her by friends in the endurance world. Now almost 30 Sunni is still to be seen out and about and is not such a hooligan since his mum discovered Parelli Natural Horsemanship! Look out for 'babyhorse' Storm out and about in 2008!

Jenni Davis
Position: Area Rep Peak and Forest Group

Covering the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire areas and supporting members in neighbouring areas who haven't yet get thier own group.
I have been interested in endurance riding since I had my first horse about 22 years ago and involved in competing throughout the late 80's /early 90's. After that I had a break from competing due to other commitments but still enjoyed taking part in pleasure rides.
The setting up of Sport Endurance renewed my interest and involvemen in an exciting new development for long distance riders.
I am now often to be seen either organising rides or helping at them - you can spot me by the pink hair and usually have my daughter assisting. Just occasionally I get to ride but I am hoping to be able to do some competitive rides this year.

Norma-Jean Ryder
Position: Area Rep Staffordshire Group

Norma-Jean started riding as a teenager and had always dreamt of owning her own horse. her parents couldn't afford riding lessons, let alone buy her a pony, so she used to ride a friends' stallion donkey, Joey. He had no saddle and she had to ride bareback. She had no control over Joey and although he used to go everywhere flat out, she never fell off. Norma-Jean tries to encourage others into our sport and particularly tries to help children acheive what she could only dream of as a child. Norma-Jean now has two Arab mares, Qassis and Shabur who she competes with whenever time allows.

Emily Smith
Position: Archive and Results & Area Rep North Wales
Emily joined Sport Endurance in February 2006 with her two Thoroughbred horses Realm & Miss Mia. After doing a few pleasure rides it wasn't long before Emily started competing and gradually moving through the qualification system from Green to Red. Emily has become more and more involved with Sport Endurance, organising both the Formby Ride and Cheshire View rides for the Norhtern Group. With her attention to detail and an organised mind she has recenly joined the Central Committee as our Archives & Results person

Helen Broughton
Position: Area 1 Rep Merchandising
Helen started her ‘Long Distance riding’ career 6 years ago with her Highland gelding Drew of Alvie.  She began with 10 mile pleasure rides and then slowly built up to 20 mile competitive rides, venturing to many beautiful parts of the country. Helen had completed some of Staffordshire Groups rides and found the organisers were such a friendly group that she decided to join Sport Endurance. Helen is committed and enthusiastic and has recently been elected to the Sport Endurance committee as Area Rep 1 covering Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands.
